Republik Councils Bikes: Chain

First a little history:

Hans Renold (1852-1943) was 21 in 1873 when he left his native Switzerland and moved to Manchester where he invented chain bicycle transmission idler. In 1879, six years after arriving in the UK bought a small company that made chains which in 1880 invented the chain idler. The difference between a roller chain and a free roller chain is that the tree or axis of the free roller chain further includes a tubular section surrounding the axis of the pin. The roller is free to rotate, and thus protects the shaft from wear. James Starley joined Renold chain on his bicycle, 1884, the bicycle is considered a star of this manufacturer which builds under the Rover brand. Renold's invention revolutionized not only the bike but all kinds of industries, especially textile industry in England, it was huge. Renold expanded its business, and in 1925 bought its largest competitor. Currently, Renold has over 3,000 employees and facilities in 22 countries around the world. The bicycle chain is a transmission element not only for bikes but also for motorcycles and other industrial applications yet. A key aspect is the conservation and control chain wear.

Now some mechanics:

A clean, well-oiled chain is synonymous with comfort, tranquility and makes other parts of the transmission function properly and last longer. Nothing nastier than a broken chain in the middle of one of our outings. Toca chop, remove the broken link and reassemble the chain (note that you fall short, to get home to change chain contact), dirty hands (Take away wipes per case) and enjoy time lost.

That does not happen, or spend as little as possible, it is advisable to clean and lubricate the chain after each ride. This will last us more and that "shit" literally eat us transmission, chain plates and cassette. Once camaraderie and no trace of dust, mud or other external agents, we will grease with oil or wax specifically for bike chains, ensuring that they are of no cause sticking crap. The application must be at the top and link to link with a rag picking what about below the string, if you can, do not use sprays especially if you have disc brakes, if you pollute with oil pills and you can throw! !

To perform this maintenance is not necessary to remove the chain, the more the tire, the more we weaken, another important thing is the string type is not the same for that 9V 8V, pay attention to the type of string that you wear and to ask your grocer to give you the same type of chain to prevent problems.

An inexpensive tool that will be of great utility is a gauge of strings, which will tell us when to change ours after this has been given or worn excessively.

Remember this simple advice, clean and lubricate the chain immediately after each ride, be ready and well preserved until your next outing and the entire transmission will function as a clock and last longer.
